IS-PORTO 2023: 8th International Symposium on Deformation Characteristics of Geomaterials was organised by the Technical Committee on Laboratory Stress-Strain-Strength Testing of Geomaterials (TC101) of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), endorsed by the Portuguese Geotechnical Society (SPG) and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). The symposium was held from 3rd to 6th August 2023 in Porto in Portugal.

       IS-PORTO 2023 aimed to continue the success of the previous symposiums: Hokkaido 1994, Torino 1999, Lyon 2003, Atlanta 2008, Seul 2011, Buenos Aires 2015, and Glasgow 2019. The symposium concentrated on understanding the deformation characteristics of geomaterials, particularly stiffness parameters at small deformations as basic features of geomaterials and their implications in geotechnical design.

      The Water Centre of the Warsaw University of life Sciences was represented by: dr hab. inż. Wojciech Sas, prof. SGGW, SGGW and dr inż. Katarzyna Gabryś.
