Fluid Mechanics Laboratory

Characteristics

Equipment:

Experimental flume

The rectangular open channel, 0.309 m wide and 9.0 m long, has its own supply system and a closed water circuit. It is equipped with a set of overflows and pillars, valves for flow regulation, a centrifugal pump, a stilling basin, a wave generator, a Venturi flume, a Parshall flume, a beach model, a needle level gauge, a Pitot tube with an digital reader and trolleys. It is intended for testing water devices such as spillways, channels or bridge pillars.

Stand for visualization of water cycle processes in nature

The stand consists of a sand-filled experimental tank, sprinklers simulating rain, wells lowering the groundwater levels, a slope adjuster, a pump, and a piezometric table. Filtration processes in various soils and environmental conditions can be imitated. A closed water circuit with a tank allows the stand to work without connecting to the water supply network.

Stand for determining air flow in pipes

The stand consists of reducers, Pitot tubes, a section of the pipeline with openings for pressure measurement, nozzles, orifices, fittings, pressure gauges, a fan for supplying air to the duct, a control panel and a trolley. The following parameters can be measured:

– air flow velocity in Pitot tube, nozzles or orifices,

– pressure drops, line and local loss factors,

– distributions of air velocity and pressure in conduits and streams.

Stand for measuring water hammer in pipelines

The stand consists of flow metres, manometers, valves, solenoid valves, a spiral pipe, a spiral conduit and an electronic pressure transducer. The parameters of water hammer can be measured.

Test stands for pumps

The stand is equipped with a set of centrifugal pumps, electric motors, an engine speed controller, pressure sensors on the suction and discharge lines, magnetic-induction flowmeters and control boards. The characteristics of a centrifugal pump or a system of pumps connected in series or in parallel can be determined.

Stand for determining flow in porous media

The model consists of a closed water circuit with its own supply pump, a water tank, supply and discharge pipes, sheet pile walls, a piezometric board, a dye tank and a laboratory trolley. It allows to study the distribution of water pressure in soils, water flows in porous media and around sheet pile walls and buildings.

Stand for testing soil filtration coefficient

The stand is equipped with a Darcy law apparatus. It consists of a cylinder filled with two layers of porous media. It is intended for measuring filtration coefficient for each layer of soil, average filtration coefficient for layered soils and Reynolds number for filtration flow.

Stand for determining water flow in pipes

The stand works in closed circuit. It consists of a tank with supply pump, straight lines with various roughness and fitting, measuring devices (Venturi tube, Pitot tube, flow metres, manometers) and control boards. Energy losses in closed pipes with various roughness, line and local loss factors, water velocity and pressure can be calculated.

Stand for determining liquid flow

The stand is used to study water flows in conduits, in channels or through buildings.
